Community

We feel it’s important to be part of the local community and to give back when we can... so here are some of the things we do within our community.

Coffee Shop Chester

Litter Picking - Keep Clean Initiative

We would like to introduce our initiative to try and keep our lovely village clean. We’ve noticed a lot more rubbish around Christleton Road Car Park and Sandy Lane Park lately, and we want to try help…

If you pop by the café and collect a little picker and a bag when you return with your full bag of rubbish we will reward you with a cake or hot drink per bag for your efforts.

Reuse Coffee Grounds - Less Waste

As another way to try and reduce our waste we giving away our used coffee grounds to anyone who would like them!

What can you use coffee grounds for?

  • They are amazing at naturally fertilising your plants - indoor and outdoor. All you need to do is mix with water and lay directly on the soil around your plants.

  • You can mix in to compost.

  • They repel any pests.

  • Make your own coffee logs for your wood burners/fires.

  • Neutralises odours.

There are many other uses too!

Come with a container and collect as much as you need. The bin is just by our courtyard entrance. Let us know how you will use yours…

Chester Zoo - Sustainable Palm Oil Project

We are committed to participation in the Sustainable Palm Oil City Project in Chester. We have worked with our suppliers to ensure that where palm oil is present in our food, it will be sourced from sustainable sources. This process is facilitated through annual supplier audits. By doing so we know that we are helping to protect wildlife around the world from the impact of unsustainable agricultural practices.

Countess of Chester

We take part in yearly fund raising for the Countess of Chester Hospital. Getting involved in their ‘Big Tea’ fundraising events.

Our Efforts to be Sustainable

In the coffee shop and roastery we try to reduce our waste and recycle as much as we can. For our local roastery customers we use reusable tubs to deliver their coffee. Our retail bags are also recyclable.

When purchasing coffee, it is so important to us that farmers are being paid fair prices, which allows them be able to continue to grow their business, provide more jobs, and help their communities. The green suppliers we work ensure that this happens.

We are taking part in the Eco Community’s pledge to reduce single use coffee cups.

We get our milk delivered in glass bottles from the dairy, who collect them and clean then reuse for our next order.

We also pledge to buy no more single use plastic drinks bottles.
